전자는 과학자 출신이고 후자는 전투기 조종하던 파일럿 출신입니다.

미국내에서 상당히 엘리트로 속하고 훈련과정이 매우 혹독합니다.

EDUCATION:
학사  Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Brown University in 1999.
석사  Master of Science Degree in Space Studies from International Space University in 2000.
박사  Doctorate in Marine Biology (diving physiology) from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) in 2009.

EXPERIENCE: For her Ph.D. research, Dr. Meir studied the diving physiology of marine mammals and birds, focusing on oxygen depletion in diving emperor penguins (Antarctic field research) and elephant seals (northern California). She investigated the high-flying bar-headed goose during her post-doctoral research at the University of British Columbia, training geese to fly in a wind tunnel while obtaining various physiological measurements in reduced oxygen conditions. In 2012, Dr. Meir accepted a position as Assistant Professor at the Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital, where she continued her research on the physiology of animals in extreme environments. She also took part in Smithsonian Institution diving expeditions to the Antarctic and Belize, and has been very active with scientific outreach efforts.

<Norishige Kanai>

Norishige Kanai was born in 1976 in Tokyo and then brought up in Chiba. He graduated from National Defense Medical College in March 2002. After graduation, he worked at National Defense Medical College Hospital, Japan Self Defense Force Ohminato Hospital and Japan Self Defense Force Hospital Kure. After working at those hospitals, he was in Medical Service Division, 1st Service School, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force as a Lieutenant and a Diving Medical Officer.

He was selected to be an astronaut candidate by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and joined JAXA in September 2009.

Since September 2009, he has participated in about two years of Astronaut Candidate (ASCAN) Training at NASA, which includes scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction on the ISS systems, Extravehicular Activity (EVA), Robotics, physiological training, flight training using the T-38 jet trainer, and water and wilderness survival training.

He has completed all basic training requirements, thus he was certified as an ISS astronaut in July, 2011.

He is currently participating in training to improve his knowledge and techniques as an astronaut mainly at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
